Skin cancer Print E-mail
By Donna Korando, Platform Staff

The boy called with the news that his method for curing the common cold was to go to the beach.

That's not too hard to do when you live on South Beach in Miami.

After telling him that Vitamin C was supposed to be more important than Vitamin D, I asked whether he had sunscreen with him. Grandpa, I told him, is getting skin cancer cut off this week.

"Sure," he said, in that tone of voice reserved for parents being dim.

Sunscreen, like seat belts and computers, is a part of his life in a way it can never be for me. Growing up on a farm, I dashed outside at first opportunity and stayed out as long as possible with no sunscreen. Ditto for my dad.
